TUFO - Installation

On Saturday, February 26th, the installation "TUFO" opens at the Spiritree bottega in Rome. "Tufo" is a warm ochre-colored volcanic rock used as a building material since Etruscan times. Six of the artists at the bottega have created papier machè figures that emerge from a tufo wall, also realized in paper machè.

DINNER PARTY INSTALLATION
of "People Who Have Overcome Challenges" sitting at a sumptuously laid table. The 4th grade students worked with the artists of Spiritree, Marco Giammetti and Carol Hendrickson, to create the figures, the food, the table settings and props all in papier machè.

Working with the Spiritree artists, fourth graders at the Harding Township School, re-created Keith Baker's
story "Who Is The Beast" on stage in a painted Indian jungle setting. The
unique structure of each creature was made evident by the students' giant papier màchè puppets. Yet, the message that all Nature's creatures, including ourselves, have something in common came through loud and clear.

that lift us up and toss us back down,
that push us forward and pull us back,
that whirl us around in a spiral.
There is no secret to balance.
We simply need to feel the wave.

Our annual summer workshop on creativity and performance art is entitled "Balance".
Come to the workshop to experience that magical moment when contrasting energies strike a balance through art making and creative movement.
The dates are July 29 - August 9, and once again, the workshop will be held at the "Monastery of Saint Anthony alla Palanzana" near Viterbo, sixty miles from Rome, in Italy.

Hands move, speak, build, create, express emotions, feelings and moods...
Come to the workshop and delve into the creative and expressive power of your hands.
Spiritree’s original performances are developed by intertwining gestural theatre and the visual arts. The creative process evolves in the same way during the workshop as participants manipulate materials to sculpt masks and giant puppets, compose poetic texts and choreograph expressive movement and gesture. The interaction between these elements leads to the discovery of new components and the path to a performance piece -- individual and group.

Carol and Marco offer art-making and theatre techniques in the spirit of nurturing the individual and group process: the five Tibetan rites for the preparation of the body, mind, spirit; ancient circle dances; personal encounters with the power of gesture and movement; theatre games and improvisation; the transformation of cardboard, chicken wire, papier mâché, paint and fabric into sculptural creations and gestural structures.

The workshop will be held in both Italian and English.
